Seize The Web - A Web Design Blog

Welcome to the blog of a group of Melbournites with a shared passion for everything web. We encourage you to read, critique and comment on our written thoughts. By the way, we also all work for a pretty cool little web design and development agency in Melbourne called Get Started.

    Datacentre Battles Through Scorching Heat

By Adam Griffith, in Web Design, Web Development

Melbourne yesterday experienced scorching heat sending the CityPower grid down. Fortunately, our datacentre's backup power generators came to the rescue and no downtime was experienced.

The UPS systems and diesel generators worked perfectly when activated by the loss of mains power.

On a side note, there is 37 hours of Diesel Generator power available before refueling, and priority supply contracts with fuel vendors ensure that this load can be held up for extended outages of practically as long as required for mains grids to come back online. So even though there may be localised power outages, the rest of the world need not know about it with websites powering along as usual.
