Get Started is a great place to work. How do we know? Because once people start working at Get Started they generally don’t want to leave! In fact, we have people who have chosen to stay with our team for over a decade. Their number one reason? Because they love working here.
Here are some other reasons to come and join the Get Started team...
We do as we say
Like most workplaces we have a number of values that underpin the way we go about what we do. But how do you make words like Family, Fun, Integrity and Quality into something that makes a difference to the work you do every day? These aren’t listed on the wall like some abstract art. Instead they represent who we are.
Family to us means thinking people first, in every situation. Our flat organisational structure encourages open communication and collaboration. There are no hierarchies, and no one’s precious. Everyone is valued for their unique contribution to the team and we treat each other as equals.
We believe there’s no point working everyone to the bone to deliver a project on time, if at the end of it no-one wants to come to work the next day! That’s how Get Started is different.
The right culture
We believe that people should be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their position, skills or background. We have fostered a culture that focuses on each other, meaning the team is always priority #1. Sure, there are sometimes hiccups. However our approach is that anything can be resolved with communication, and so we encourage everyone to communicate often and early.
An amazing office space
We love our office. The historic Georges Building is an inspiring place to work - high ceilings, unique collaborative spaces, an incredible conference room and a bar with the all important, fully-stocked bar fridge! We’ve got a ping pong table, a dartboard, a PS4 and an old-school Atari. A shower and change room facilities are available for staff who choose to walk, run or cycle to work. With a fully stocked kitchen, daily breakfast, a barista-style coffee machine, soft drink in the fridge and all you can eat fruit we’re pretty comfortable!
Socially active team
Everyone loves a party, and we have a few! Once a month we let our hair down, with some kind of awesome activity. One month could be trampolining, the next could be poker. Regardless of what it may be, it’s a great opportunity to let your hair down and get to know your co-workers. Every Friday afternoon (after our internal training and development sessions) we have a beer to celebrate the week and start the weekend off right. And most importantly, once a month we have lunch with the entire team. We like to spend time together, and we create plenty of opportunities to do just that.
We’re always looking for ways to improve, and we believe there is no better way to do that than with ongoing training and development. So we provide plenty of opportunities to learn new things. Most weeks we have internal training sessions, on topics that vary wildly. There’s always something new to learn! We also believe in learning what’s happening in our industry as well, and actively participate in conferences such as Web Directions South, Web Directions Code, and our varying industry associations.
As much as we think our little world here at Get Started is pretty fantastic, we realise we’re just a small part of a much bigger picture. That’s why we like to do what we can to help others in less fortunate circumstances. Our main charity of choice is OneGirl, a not-for-profit organisation that was started by a former Get Started staffer with the aim of giving women and girls around the world access to education. We’re so committed to supporting this charity that our CEO has even become a director.
What our team members say
"They listen to you when you have a concern and they’re proactive about making sure you enjoy what you do, moving people around so they don’t burn out... (CEO) Marty is not shy about showering praise on people, whether it’s privately when you’re having a beer with him or in front of the team at training. He likes to make sure everyone knows that what they’re doing is appreciated."
